Let Me In

Let Me In is a horror movie that isn’t your typical horror movie it’s more of complexing story that has a horror component to it which is a fresh idea that really delivers. Let Me In is the US version of Let The Right One In which is an absolute must have for any horror fan or any fan of movies.
Let Me In is about a young boy named Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who is dealing with a rash of problems ranging from not having any friends to being bullied at school all while his parents are going through a bitter divorce. This is when he meets a new young girl named Abby (Chloe Moretz) who he befriends not knowing that she is a Vampire.
Kodi and Chloe both have such amazing talent and it shows throughout the movie. The way Kodi portrays a lost kid is a true treat because he captures your heart with the way he shows his innocence. His mental lapses of wearing a mask and stabbing a tree shows the true pain behind the boy. Chloe delivers a remarkable performance with the way she looks very innocent while being lost and in dismay while trying to coup with being a vampire. She shows true despair in her character. These two kids show a true passion for one-another that some adults aren’t able to convey which helps build their relationship as friends into something heartwarming which is unusual for a horror movie. Richard Jenkins who plays the Guardian of Abby shows true remorse in his eyes and his facial expressions for things that he does and it truly comes out in his character.
Matt Reeves who is known mainly by the movie Cloverfield delivered a truly remarkable experience for the viewer in the way he builds the elegant story using music and effects and not pointless gore. The special effects where spot on, they weren’t over the top and a lot of it is done in the dark so you have to leave it to your imagination to see what’s happening which is a great touch. He also delivers a truly menacing look to the vampire. When you look into the Evil looking eyes of the vampire you see a truly scary sight.
When you think of vampire movies lately they have all abandon the true folklore of vampires and thrown it out the window, for example in twilight when Edward is in Bella’s room while she is sleeping and when vampires are able to walk in sunlight is straight ignorance of the vampire folklore. Reeves brings the folklore back to a forefront with how sunlight will kill a vampire and how vampires can’t come into your house unless they are invited in which is a a great reminder of the folklore that has been lost in the recent vampire movies.
All in all this movie was a remarkable rendition of the must have movie Let The Right One In. If you have seen the original then you will love this movie which feels similar to the original with its own little twists mixed in.
