Hall Pass
by Dante Rosario on February 27th, 2011
The Players: Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, Christina Applegate, Richard Jenkins, and Stephen Merchant.
The Game Plan: Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Jason Sudeikis) are two happily married men who like to gawk at and discuss other women with their friends, even when their wives are around. After a series of embarrassing events involving their immature fantasies, Rick and Fred are given a week off from their marriages to pursue their inner desires and attractions towards other women. In no time at all the two friends realize the pursuit of other women might not be as good as they thought it would be, and each man is forced to look inward to find what he really wants, while their wives start to look at other men.
Dante’s Thoughts: Hall Pass is full of fresh adult humor that will have audiences in stitches. I honestly haven’t heard a movie theater so loud with laughter in years, but for as funny as this movie is, even I found myself cringing at some of the more juvenile parts of the film. If you’re going to see this movie expect crude disturbing jokes, and a full onslaught of almost every comedic stereotype know to man, so I suggest you choose who you see this film with wisely.
Touchdown: While the plot of Hall Pass isn’t brilliant by any means, in the end the filmmakers manage to create a modern comedy by pushing boundaries that give audiences something new to laugh at.
Penalty: Hall Pass is yet another film in a string of male driven comedies chock full of unrealistic character scenarios and a plot that shows how twisted the minds of the screenwriters have to be in order to come up with such ridiculous storylines.
End of Game Summary: If you’re looking for a movie that will have you laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in utter disbelief the next then Hall Pass is the movie for you.
