The Expendables

Going into this movie I knew a few things. One, the acting was not going to be good. Two, the story line was would be mediocre because it had been done before. Three, there was going to be a lot of explosions, shoot outs and great fight sequences. I was definitely right about the acting. The movie is full of meatheads who are sub par actors. Jet Li doesn’t really fall into this category, as his stature is not quite meathead material.
The plot was worse than I gave it credit for prior to seeing the movie. Don’t get me wrong – overthrowing a corrupt foreign government that suppresses its people and distributes drugs to the world sounds great. It’s terrible though.
Little is explained throughout “The Expendables” and you learn minimal details about the characters. Even for being an action packed movie, the special effects were average at best. The highlights in this movie were the fighting sequences, which were unbelievable, but very entertaining.
This movie should not get a great rating simply because “it’s an action movie that had a lot of action.” There isn’t a real special rating system that separates the different genres of film. They all are held accountable under the same expectations and that ultimately is whether or not it’s a good movie. “The Expendables” was not.
