Secretariat

“Sea Biscuit” was good; “Secretariat” is a fantastic story of triumph against all odds, that is perfectly filmed, and superbly acted!
“Secretariat” tells the true story of Penny Chenery (Diane Lane), one of the first women to rise through the ranks of the male dominated world of horse breeding.
The movie begins with Chenery’s family owing millions of dollars to creditors and backers, and on the brink of loosing their farm. Penny decides to take over the family business, and risks it all on one amazing horse’s potential to win the Triple Crown.
Diane Lane leads an excellent cast of Hollywood veterans and newcomers, in an inspiring performance as Penny Chenery; the woman who made the impossible, possible…and even at 45 Ms. Lane’s still got the look. John Malkovich is hilarious as the legendary jockey and horse trainer, Lucien Laurin…I just wish I could have been there in the ‘70s to see some of those outfits.
From start to finish “Secretariat” had me on the edge of my seat…the sweeping cinematography, and great acting, drew me in and made me feel like I was part of the action…there were moments when I could feel my heart beating so fast, I thought I was watching a high-tension thriller.
While there are some parts of the plot that are a bit exaggerated…even the over the top moments serve an overall purpose in advancing the story.
If you’re looking for a solid film that will inspire and entertain you, “Secretariat” is that movie! I left the theater feeling so good, I’m actually thinking of attending one of the US Triple Crown races this year.
