Burlesque
by Gary Barnidge on December 9th, 2010
The Starting Lineup – Tess (Cher) Ali (Christina Aguilera) Marcus (Eric Dane) Jack (Cam Gigandet) Kristen Bell (Nikki) Steve Antin (Director)
Gary’s Thoughts – Going into the film I was already turned off knowing it was a musical type of movie and had Christina Aguilera in an acting performance which I haven’t seen from her. From the opening scene til the ending scene I was engrossed in what I was seeing. The music throughout the whole film is catchy and hit in many different areas of music with all the different types of songs from slow songs to fast paced to catchy. Cher showed she still has the singing voice she is known for with 2 songs with one that I will be getting from Itunes because its a great song lyrically and she sang it beautifully. There are a few things the movie that were unnecessary or not explained that may throw you off a little. Its also has a simple plot that has been used many times before but it works with this movie.
The Game Plan - When a girl named Ali (Aguilera) from Iowa decides to move to LA to try and make a career in singing walks into a Burlesque show and falls in love with what she sees.
Touchdowns – The singing throughout the whole movie is amazing with many different types of songs from touching to catchy to dance songs. The movie takes a simple plot and adds in another story which makes it feel as if there are two movies in one which delivers. The Burlesque dancing in the film is amazing with some stunning Burlesques dance moves that will have you asking how do they do that.
Penalties - There are some scenes that are not needed or just a time filler which takes away from some of the movie. For example when Ali (Aguilera) shows up at her co-workers place with just meeting him and they don’t explain how she knew where to go she just shows up isn’t believable. Also Kristen Bell’s character wasn’t needed she does a good job in her scenes but the scenes are just a time filler and you can feel it as you watch the scenes.
The Game Winner – The singing by Christina and Cher is by far enough reason to see the movie. They sing with such passion and emotion which is truly captivating to see and hear. The simple plot is easy to follow and will keep you entertained throughout the whole film.
Game Summary – The movie will keep you entertained throughout the whole film with great singing and a plot that is easy to follow. Also Cher delivers in her role as an actress and as a singer.
