Paranormal Activity 2
by Gary Barnidge on October 26th, 2010
The Starting Lineup – Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Molly Ephraim, Brian Bolden, Sprague Grayden, A Dog, and A Baby. Tod Williams (Director)
Gary’s Thoughts – Let me start by saying I liked the first Paranormal activity because of its creativity and its simple plot around two characters that deal with the supernatural, so naturally I thought I was going to like this movie because I thought they were going to add some new aspects to the movie. The movie was pretty much the same movie as the original with some new characters. It looked as if they were happy with doing the same scare tactics that worked in the original and didn’t try to step it up at all. This is also a mix of a prequel and sequel all in one movie which is something that I did enjoy.
The Gameplan – Katie and Micah are back in the movie that scared audiences worldwide in a prequel that deals with Katie’s sister’s family being terrorized by someone or something.
Touchdowns – This movie is a mix of prequel and a sequel which is a unique take on a film and it works. The simple scare tactics the film uses works on getting the audience to jump. The twist is something that is pretty interesting.
Penalties – Pretty much the same movie as the original with new characters added in. They try to build it as a true story that really happened even with everyone knowing the original was not real as well as Katie Featherston going to the premier of the movie. If you are going to try and portray a movie as being real go all out with it and don’t tell anyone and hide the actors and actresses to make it seem real for the time being, use some of the tactics Blair Witch Project used to make you think it was real. The film tried to hard to build the characters in the movie which makes the movie start very slow with less paranormal activity.
Coaching Performance – Tod Williams takes over the director role and I feel he just tried to use the same tactics that the previous director Oren Peli used to make the original such a hit. He tries to build the characters to much which makes the movie move at a slow pace and when things start happening it all happens all of a sudden and feels a little rushed.
Fumble – Paranormal Activity 2 had a chance to try something new and bring in a new aspect into the movie but decided to just go with the same things that worked in the original with the exception of there is less paranormal activity in this film which feels as if the movie dragged on and feel very slow.
Game Summary – Paranormal Activity 2 will deliver a few scares and jumpy moments but doesn’t deliver as a whole. It is a prequel and a sequel which is something that may sound a little confusing but you will see what I mean. The ending has a nice little twist involved that will make you say “huh, that is pretty messed up”
